What happens in the last days of life?

As you approach the last days and hours of your life you will go through a process of withdrawing from the world. During this time a number of changes in your body and mind occur.

This section of the website contains information about the dying process, what is happening to you as you withdraw from the world and how you can be cared for at the end of your life. It includes information on:

Although this is written about you, we recognise that at this stage in your life you are likely to be too poorly to be bothered with looking at website information. We anticipate that you will probably look at this information before you reach the last days of your life, perhaps many months or even years before.

Whilst we want to provide accurate information in enough detail to be useful to you and your carers, we do not want you to worry. So please just access the parts you are interested in and remember that it’s ok to ask the health care professionals involved in your care about anything that worries you.
